Volume Stabilization allows you to increase or decrease the dynamic range of the audio output. Increase the dynamic range (loud becomes louder, soft becomes softer). Decrease the dynamic range (loud becomes softer + soft becomes louder) to achieve a balanced sound. Digital Audio Conversion can take the digital coaxial output from a DVD player and the digital optical output from a CD player + feed either a single optical or coaxial signal to your receiver.
